Matt Scott

Executive Director of Fly Without Limits

Matt Scott is a 5-time Paralympian, Two time Gold Medalist, and his name is synonymous with excellence, resilience, and advocacy. He has not only left an indelible mark on the game but has also become a pioneer and champion for Paralympians and athletes with disabilities worldwide.
 

Born with spina bifida, Matt Scott faced unique challenges from an early age. Undeterred by his circumstances, he embraced his love for sports and discovered wheelchair basketball at the age of 14. His undeniable talent and passion propelled him to the forefront of the game, catching the attention of the U.S. men's national wheelchair basketball team right after high school.
 

Since his graduation, Matt has represented Team USA in every summer Paralympic Games, starting from Athens in 2004, through Beijing in 2008, London in 2012, Rio in 2016, and most recently, Tokyo in 2020. Throughout his two-decade tenure with the team, he has witnessed and contributed to their remarkable rise, transforming from a seventh-place finish in 2004 to capturing a bronze medal in 2012 and ultimately securing the coveted gold medal in 2016. True to their winning ways, Matt and his teammates successfully defended their gold medal in Tokyo, solidifying their legacy as champions.
 

Beyond the court, Matt Scott's influence reverberates throughout the world. His impact extends to the realms of media and corporate sponsorship, where he has shattered barriers and paved the way for future generations of athletes with disabilities. Nominated for an ESPY, he became the first U.S. Paralympian to feature in a Nike commercial, captivating audiences globally with his unparalleled skills. He also showcased his abilities in Apple commercials, garnering millions of views worldwide. His involvement as a member of team Pixel and appearances in nationally televised Google Pixel advertisements have further amplified his advocacy platform. Matt's presence  has pushed the adaptive sports movement to new heights, and prides himself on his advocacy efforts spearheading various community initiatives.
 

Currently, Matt Scott serves as an associate within the Visa corporation, where he plays an instrumental role in creating opportunities for individuals with disabilities in the corporate space, ensuring that inclusivity remains at the forefront of their initiatives. Additionally, he has represented travelers with disabilities by testifying before members of Congress, striving to secure dignified travel experiences for the physically disabled.

Matt's commitment to championing inclusivity and universal participation in sports extends beyond the corporate world. He serves on the executive committee of the Move United Board of Directors, actively working to break down barriers and empower individuals with disabilities through adaptive sports. Additionally, he lends his expertise and insights as a member of Angel City's Board of Directors, playing a crucial role in advancing their mission of fostering diversity and equality.

Matt Scott's journey is an embodiment of the human spirit, resilience, and unwavering determination. He continues to inspire countless individuals around the globe, reminding us all that the power to overcome adversity and drive positive change lies within each of us.
