Gary Grief
Gary Grief was appointed Executive Director of the Texas Lottery Commission in March 2010. As Executive Director, Grief oversees an eight-billion dollar enterprise whose mission is to generate revenue for public education, veterans’ assistance and other good causes in the State of Texas. Grief has been an integral part of the success of the Texas Lottery Commission since its inception in 1992.
Grief has taken on leadership positions for national lottery industry initiatives as well, having served in leadership roles in every major U.S. lottery organization over the last several years including Lead Director for Mega Millions in 2010-2012, President of the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) in 2013, Chair of the Powerball Game Group in 2016, and President of the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) in 2017.
Grief was recognized in 2012 with the PGRI Major Peter J. O’Connell Lottery Industry Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2014 Grief was elected to the PGRI Lottery Industry Hall of Fame.
